Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule

The official list below shows reserved time periods not confirmed exams. Please check with your instructor whether or not your course will be taking its final exam within this time.

Before you register, make sure to read the Goethe exam guidelines and the terms and conditions that appear on each exam page. Register for the appropriate level of exam.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists locations where DEP conducts operator certification exams. Check out the exam pages for additional information on exam topics, exam conditions and conditions, and other guidelines. If you need special accommodations because of chronic disease, visual or hearing impairment or other limitations, contact the exam provider and provide detailed information when you register.

Faculty can view their exam times via the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. Additionally the Registrar's Office has a list of exam times for courses in which an exam is required by NYSED regulations. Final exams for evening classes are scheduled during the regular class time of the final examination weeks.



Please be aware that the Projected University Examination Schedule is only a guideline and that the dates for the final exam are subject to change.

Registration

Students are advised to check the exam schedule online. It is important to remember that the final schedule of exams may change at any time. Students should therefore check with their instructors to confirm the correct time and date of their test. Students should be sure to print the official list and bring it to their exam.

Students should also familiarize themselves with the rules and conditions of the exam, in addition to the schedule. They are available on the page for each exam. Students acknowledge having read and agree to the conditions and terms of registration.

Exam sites make every effort to accommodate students with special requirements. The nature and extent of these requirements must be declared on the registration form and verified by an attestation from a doctor. Additionally the locations for the exam must respect confidentiality and be maintained.

If a student is scheduled to take three tests on the same day, they should contact their instructor or department to schedule a retake test. It is possible to take three examinations on the same day. However, this can cause a lot of stress and impact the quality of the exam. In addition, the professor might not be able to give a makeup exam on a different day.

Before taking the test, students must prepare by studying the course material and practicing their German skills. The exam is a paper-based test that measures the ability to speak, read and write in German. The results of the examination are given using a scale of A1 to C2. Students who pass the exam receive an Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate certifies the achievement of language level A1.  see page  is the first level of the six-level scale of competency laid out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The test is free of cost. Students must carry a valid government ID to the exam. Anyone who does not have a valid photo ID will be disqualified from the examination.

Fees

If you have completed your studies at Elan Academy and wish to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (start German 1), you will need to pay the exam fee. This is in addition to the cost of the course.

Practice tests allow you to get familiar with the format, wording, and difficulty of the questions on the test. They allow you to assess your knowledge level, find gaps in knowledge and improve your chances of passing the exam.

Please note that the fee for exams is not refundable. Exam results can only by electronically sent, not via phone.
